Summer sessions at Montclair State University provide a fantastic opportunity for students to fast-track their education in a vibrant campus setting. With smaller class sizes, students enjoy more personalized attention from instructors, enhancing their learning experience. These sessions are a practical way for students to make the most of their summer, seamlessly integrating academics with other seasonal commitments.

  • How Many Credits Can Students Take in the Summer?
    • Your student can earn up to 12 credits toward their degree this summer with a variety of courses that satisfy GenEd, major, minor or concentration requirements. View the Summer Course Schedule.
  • My Student Lives Far Away, but Would Like to Take a Summer Course. What Are Their Options?
    • Online courses allow students the flexibility to study anywhere while balancing summer jobs, summer vacations and coursework.
  • What Is the Deadline to Register for Summer Courses?
    • Summer registration is currently open to all students. Summer courses fill up quickly. It is recommended to register as soon as possible to avoid getting closed out of a course. However, registration is open throughout the summer. Students have until the first day of a course's start date to register. Learn How to Register for Summer.
  • How Much Is Summer Tuition?
  • My Student Withdrew From a Fall or Spring Course. How Do They Stay on Track?
    • Summer Sessions offers students the opportunity to catch up, get ahead, focus on a challenging course or lighten their course load in future terms, all on track to graduation.

ARAN 190-44 (31216) Introduction To The Visual Arts: Focus on the nature and experience of art across many cultures and its central role in our daily lives. Satisfies Fine and Performing Arts GenEd requirement; satisfies SEEDS Creative Expression student learning outcome in alignment with Diversity and Intercultural Competency value.

BIOL 111-41 (30523) Emerging Diseases: Learn how emerging diseases are affected by the environment, human development and international political events, including the emergence of new viral diseases, diseases related to diet and diseases related to aging.

FMTV 260-41 (31160) Film Story Analysis: Explore and deepen your understanding of story structure through the analysis of successful films. Taught by award-winning writer and director Frank Rinaldi.

NUFD 182-44 (31029) Nutrition - A Sociological Perspective: Improve your nutrition, improve your life. Nutrition affects your physical and mental wellness and following a healthy diet can lead to positive changes in your everyday life. Students learn the fundamentals of nutrition, how to complete a food diary and analyze their food record. This course is a requirement for all nursing, exercise science and public health students. It is also a requirement for the Nutrition and Food Science minor and the Sports Nutrition minor.
