Your Student's 1098-T Now Available Online
Your student received this notice on January 28.
Montclair State University has partnered with Heartland ECSI, offering students the opportunity to receive their 1098-T Tuition Statement electronically. View a sample 1098-T form with box/section explanations. Students can access their 1098T via Heartland ECSI or via Nest if they do not already have an account with Heartland.
Qualified Tuition Reported in Box 1
Box 1 reflects the total payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses (QTRE) from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, minus any refunds or reimbursements.
Important Information
- No Social Security Number? If your student does not have a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) on file, a 1098-T will be generated without the SSN.
- Your Student Changed Their Social Security Number? If your student recently updated their SSN, they must complete the Social Security Form with the Registrar’s Office:
- On Campus: Bring the completed form with official documents to the Red Hawk Central on the Montclair campus, 1-Stop in Cole Hall (2nd fl Atrium) or the Bloomfield campus, Knox Hall, Room 100, to submit the materials for processing.
- Off Campus: Mail notarized official copies of the completed form and official documents to: Office of the Registrar, Montclair State University, 1 Normal Avenue, Montclair, NJ 07043.
International Students
The 1098-T is a US tax document which requires the student to have a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). The 1098-T is applicable to payments made toward tuition and fees for the 2025 calendar year, January - December 2025.
Students or families that file income tax forms in the US, and have paid for tuition and eligible fees are eligible to receive this 1098-T tax form. If your student does not meet this requirement, you can disregard this communication.
