New Academic Calendar

We are pleased to share that Montclair State University will introduce a new academic calendar structure starting in spring 2025. This update, part of President Jonathan Koppell’s initiative, allows students to take full-length courses across three semesters—fall, spring and summer, offering year-round educational opportunities.
What’s Changing?
Under the new calendar structure, the fall, spring and summer terms will include multiple sessions, offering more flexibility.
Fall and Spring Semesters (3 Sessions):
- Session A: 14 weeks (full term)
- Session B: 7 weeks (half term)
- Session C: 7 weeks (half term)
Summer Term (6 Sessions):
- Session A: 14 weeks (full term)
- Session B: 7 weeks (half term)
- Session C: 7 weeks (half term)
- Session D, E, F: 4 weeks each
All shorter sessions will be integrated within the 14-week full terms.
What Are the Benefits?
- Consistent Lengths: Fall, spring, and summer terms will now have equal durations, making it easier to plan.
- Mid-Semester Fall Break: The new structure divides each semester into two 7-week sessions, with a well-timed break to recharge.
- Two Common Hours: Every week during the fall and spring semesters, there will be two dedicated times when no classes are held—Monday and Wednesday from 2-3:30 p.m.—giving students time for clubs, organizations, or important meetings without schedule conflicts.
- Improved Class Scheduling = Less Campus Traffic: Adjustments to class start and end times will reduce overlaps and improve room availability, helping alleviate traffic during busy times and fitting seamlessly with the shorter 14-week semester.
This restructured calendar offers more flexibility and consistency, helping students get the most out of their year-round educational experience.
We look forward to the start of this exciting change with the spring 2025 semester, beginning Friday, January 17, 2025 and ending Monday, May 5, 2025!
